Shoukry began his career as an instructor at Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt in 1971. Between 1977 and 1979, he became a graduate assistant at Aston University in the U.K. Shoukry returned to Helwan University in 1981 until 1993 as an assistant and later an associate professor. During this time he spent two years as an associate professor for the University of Technology in Baghdad, Iraq beginning in 1988. Since 1993, he has worked for the Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering Department, having become a full professor in 1999.
