Sivaneri served in graduate teaching and research positions at Cornell University between 1975 and 1976. Froom 1977 to 1978, he was a graduate research assistant at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Following, Sivaneri held a similar position at Stanford University until 1982, when he received his Ph.D. Since then, he has been with WVU. Most of his time has been with the Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Department, were he became a full professor in 1993. However, between 1994 and 1997, he was acting Director for the Office of Graduate Education. He has also served as associate chair for the department and graduate program director.
