Deniz Tuncay

Assistant Professor - Department of Mining Engineering

Tuncay received his bachelor’s degree in 2011 and his master’s degree in 2014 from Middle East Technical University. His master thesis focused on the reliability analysis of draglines using fault tree analysis. In 2018, he started his Ph.D. at West Virginia University and received his degree in 2021. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on a new geology-oriented loading approach for underground coal mines. His work earned him the West Virginia University Mining Engineering Faculty Graduate Award in 2019, the Syd S. and Felicia F. Peng Ground Control in Mining Scholarship in 2019, the Raja V. and Geetha V. Ramani Graduate Student Award in 2021, and WAAIME Scholarships. His current research focuses on ground control, rock mechanics, and geomechanics.
